Oversize Truck Load Shuts Down Rt. 9 Roundabout

A truck pulling an oversize load shut down Rt. 9 Friday morning when the driver attempted to drive through one of the road’s newly-installed roundabouts at Stony Point Road near Hillsboro.

The disabled truck was reported around 10 a.m. and caused traffic delays for around two hours as it was cleared. It was reported cleared shortly after noon.

I hope the driver was cited for every infraction possible.

That truck has zero business traveling on Rte 9.

What crime did the driver commit? It is a public road. The mayor is the one who should be cited for the $15M debacle in Hillsoboro…

Oversize loads like this require route specific permits issued by VDOT. The driver was not on a permitted route.

Ignoring the physical challenges of sending an I N C R E D I B L Y L O O N G tractor trailer such as this through the two rotaries in Hillsboro PLUS the two rotaries in Paeonian Springs…

Does it seem safe to have a load that is possibly TWELVE FEET WIDE on Route 9?

(Bear in mind that the lowboy trailer is 8’6″ wide, and the load extends at least 18 to 24″ over on each side.)

And where were the spotter vehicles?
