Mark Twain said if you have to eat a live frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. That’s the mentality promoted at Ashburn’s newly opened Eat the Frog Fitness studio.
The Broadlands studio officially opened Dec. 5 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. On hand for the occasion were franchise owners Julie and Travis Green and company co-founders Joe Culver, and Bryan Clay, an Olympic decathlon gold and silver medalist who was called “The World’s Greatest Athlete” during the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics. The opening marks the company’s first studio in the region and its 21st across the nation and Canada, with more soon to open, including in the DC area.
Julie Green, who’s been in the fitness industry for 27 years, said she opened the studio in Ashburn with her husband because the type of fitness offerings that Eat the Frog features are workouts she believes in.
“It’s what we do in everyday life,” she said. “It’s everything I believe in in fitness.”
After the ribbon-cutting, the Greens presented Mrs. Loudoun County Erin Lombardi with a $250 check to benefit Boulder Crest Retreat—a nonprofit in Bluemont that offers programs to active-duty military, veterans, first responders and their families to improve their physical, emotional, spiritual and economic wellbeing.
While accepting the donation, Lombardi, also Tarara Winery’s business development director, mentioned that her husband had returned home from a military tour overseas just hours prior to Thursday night’s event.
Clay and Culver Launched the fitness company in 2014 with an initial location in Maui, HI. Eat the Frog offers both live and virtual, 55-minute training sessions 24/7.
Live sessions include dynamic warm-ups, interval circuit training and cool downs. Virtual trainings are scheduled during non-peak hours and use a virtual coach on a projector screen to guide members through their workouts.
Regional Developer Mark Loev said the Broadlands location had 250 residents signed up before it opened.
