The fifth annual Spc. Stephan L. Mace Annual Golf Classic was held Monday at the Loudoun Golf and Country Club in Purcellville. Proceeds from the sold-out, invitational golf tournament will benefit Loudoun County’s HeroHomes, a nonprofit organization established to build homes for those who have fought for the preservation of freedom and democracy for others.
The tournament is named in honor of Purcellville resident Stephan L. Mace, who was one of eight soldiers killed in a 2009 Taliban attack on Combat Outpost Keating, a small American base in eastern Afghanistan. In addition to local business and community leaders, the field includes several members of Mace’s unit in Afghanistan.
HeroHomes has built three homes in Loudoun to house wounded veterans and their families. The next home will be built in Purcellville on a street named in Mace’s memory.
