Loudoun Small Business Week: On The Schedule

One of the biggest of the year for Loudoun’s entrepreneurs is just days away, as the county will celebrate its Small Business Week.

This year, the weeklong celebration aligns with National Small Business Week. And Vanessa Wagner, the county’s small business and entrepreneurship manager, said organizers have taken cues from previous years to shake things up for the 2019 rendition.

“Every year Small Business Week is different because our business development managers and partners take feedback from entrepreneurs and business owners in the community and implement that feedback. It’s very much driven by industry trends and important information relevant to today’s business owners,” she said.

Among the additions for 2019 is the “Grow Your Business Outside of the Farmers Market” seminar, set for Tuesday, May 7 at the Loudoun Extension Office in Leesburg, to help rural and agricultural business owners identify new market opportunities and additional revenue streams. A Thursday, May 9 session on cybersecurity best practices for small businesses hopes to help business owners avoid the pitfalls of web threats. And the Friday, May 10 Entrepreneurial Women’s Business Seminar stems from a new partnership with the Loudoun Commission on Women and Girls, Wagner said.

Another change is the addition of the annual Visit Loudoun Tourism Awards at week’s end, as the week also falls during National Tourism Week. The Spring Farm Tour, which traditionally had ended Loudoun Small Business Week, will instead be held the following weekend, so that farmers have the opportunity to attend the Small Business Week sessions, Wagner said.

Many of the events are offered free of charge while others are offered at a start-up business-friendly price, Wagner said.

Loudoun Small Business Week runs Monday, May 6 through Friday, May 10. More information on the week’s events can be found at biz.loudoun.gov/loudoun-sbw-2019.
