Final Section of Sycolin Road Widening Begins in Leesburg

The fourth and final phase of the project to widen Sycolin Road begins this week.

This portion of the project will widen the road to four lanes from its intersection with Tolbert Lane to the southern corporate limits.

Construction is expected to take about 18 months to complete. Work will begin with entrance improvements at the Leesburg Tech Park construction site. During this initial work, concrete barriers will be put in place to redirect traffic, as needed. Following this initial work, new southbound lanes will be constructed to the west of the existing roadway. Once the southbound lanes are completed, traffic will be shifted onto the newly built roadway and the northbound lanes will be rebuilt.

During construction, access to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department will remain available at all times. Access to the Leesburg Executive Airport will also remain available; however, detours from Miller Drive will be put in place, while the southbound lanes are being constructed.
