Update: Leesburg’s Freeze Your Gizzard Race Canceled

Update: Because of soggy and icy conditions following Thursday’s winter storm that have made the course unsafe, the organizers have  canceled this year’s Freeze Your Gizzard cross county race event that had been planned for Saturday at Ida Lee Park and Morven Park.

Refunds will be issued to those who have already  registered. There will be no make-up date for the event.

The Leesburg Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with Loudoun Hunger Relief, is hosting the 16th annual Freeze Your Gizzard Cross Country 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, Nov. 17. Runners of all skill levels and ages are invited to join the fun in this cross-country-style race timed by Potomac River Running.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the gazebo in the front field of Ida Lee Park. It will run through a scenic cross-country course along Ida Lee Park’s 138 acres. No dogs, wagons or baby strollers are allowed on the course due to uneven terrain.

Day-of-event registration is available beginning at 7 a.m. for $30 for the 5K and $15 for the 1-mile fun run. All participants are being asked to bring two canned goods or non-perishable items to donate to Loudoun Hunger Relief. TRIP II – Dulles Greenway is assisting with the collection of the food.

Register at prraces.com by 8 p.m. Thursday to save $5. For more information, call 703-777-1368 or visit idalee.org.
