Today is a big day in Loudoun. It’s GiveChoose day, 24 hours dedicated to charitable giving.
Loudouners can go now to GiveChoose.org to donate to their charity of choice from among the 65 nonprofits participating this year. Visitors can choose from among animal welfare, environment, health, human services, education, youth, arts and culture, and community development nonprofits to support with a donation of $10 or more.
Throughout the day, as gifts come in to support a donor’s chosen nonprofit, charities add up those gifts to compete for monetary awards from a prize pool throughout the 24-hour period. Those donations appear on the site’s leaderboard throughout the campaign.
“It’s a perfect match,” said Amy Owen, president of the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties. “Donors choose a charity that represents their passion to make a difference.”
Some charities are stretching that giving further with “challenge gifts,” matching gifts from other donors for money those nonprofits raise during GiveChoose
The prize pool is a collection of sponsorship gifts from area businesses and funders, including Claude Moore Charitable Foundation, Toth Financial, Backflow Technology, StoneSprings Hospital Center, Rotary Club Leesburg Daybreak, Inova, First Citizens Bank, Loudoun Chamber of Commerce, Sandy Springs Bank, and One Hour Mechanical, among others.
Give Choose has raised more than $600,000 for local charities since it began in 2014.
The Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties, which puts on GiveChoose, is a grantmaking organization that promotes community philanthropy by working with local donors who create local giving circles and personalized endowment funds.
