For Seniors in Loudoun: Residential Living Options Abound

One of Loudoun’s fastest-growing market segments is services to care for the senior population, with three new assisted living communities opening in recent months.

Few communities offer the breadth of elder care options that are available in Loudoun—ranging from a military-oriented life campus to a large assisted living center to a small home-like care center.

In common, they share a desire to provide a safe and caring environment designed to give seniors the highest quality of life possible in their twilight years.

According to American Senior Communities, the typical assisted living resident is described as a mobile woman (on average, women outlive men by about seven years) around the age of 87 years old. While she is still mostly independent, she requires some help with at least two or three daily living activities, like bathing, dressing, eating, or medication management. She also might have some chronic conditions like osteoporosis or high blood pressure.

Loudoun’s senior care options include a host of independent and assisted living facilities with their own areas of specialty or special offerings. Those are in addition to the host of active adult communities where residents are required to be 55 years old or older but are not necessarily retired and don’t require special care.
