Adios 2017! Swing, Sip & Dance Your Way Into The New Year

2017 has been a doozy, and there’s really only one way to kiss it goodbye: by having as much fun as possible. Here are a few suggestions for blowing off some steam New Year’s Eve style. And be sure to check out the Loudoun Now calendar and for more great plans for the 31st.

Party Like It’s 1929 At SideBar

Leesburg’s brand new speakeasy-inspired SideBar has a lot to celebrate this New Year’s Eve. The restaurant’s 1920s style celebration is not just another party—it’s also the venue’s grand opening. The new concept from Leesburg restaurateurs Olivia and Nils Schnibbe, boasts three bars (including a basement hideaway). The restaurant’s NYE debut will feature passed hors d’oeuvres, cocktail specials, a live ’20s band and a midnight toast. Dressing in ’20s attire is encouraged (and will earn you 10 percent discount).

“We want to give everyone an introduction to the esthetic goals of SideBar,” said General Manager Aislin Kavaldjian. “We’re combining what’s great about this awesome historic property with contemporary innovations in cocktails and food.”

If ’20s style isn’t your thing, SideBar’s sister operation, Fa La La Christmas Pop Up, is doing a celebration of its own around the corner on Loudoun Street. And SideBar is also doing brunch the following day starting at 10:15 a.m. Why bother going to sleep?

New Year’s Eve at Sidebar is Monday, Dec. 31 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at 24 S. King St. in Leesburg.  Tickets are $20 at the door. Go to sidebarlbg for details.

Back to the ’80s at The Tally Ho

There’s hardly anything more fun in the DMV than an evening spent dancing the night away to 80s hits from DMV favorites The Reagan Years. Their annual Wednesday-before-Thanksgiving shows had become a tradition at the downtown Leesburg concert venue. But this year, the band and venue owners decided to shake things up and move the show to NYE.

“We’re trying to make downtown Leesburg a destination for New Year’s Eve,” said manager Jack Devine.

With a surprisingly wide range of pop, rock, new wave and heavy metal hits from the ’80s, the Reagan Years are known for high-energy shows—covering everything from Bon Jovi to Billy Idol. Another local favorite, The After Party Band, opens with contemporary covers from Bruno Mars to Lady Gaga.

For Reagan Years founding member Sy Seyler, the show will be a return to a favorite stage and a great way to spend NYE with devoted fans.

“The venue is a great concert venue—the audience has a clear view of the band from anywhere in the house. This lets the band have a full interaction with the crowd either in the pit or the balcony,” Seyler said. “The production is top notch and the staff is friendly.”

New Year’s Eve at the Tally Ho is Sunday, Dec. 31 at 7 p.m. at 19 W. Market St. in Leesburg. VIP tickets are sold out but $25 general admission tickets are still available. General tickets include a midnight toast and food specials at Tally Ho Taco next door. For tickets and information, go to

And they’ll take the party up a notch for their first New Year’s bash at the venue. $25 admission includes a midnight toast and late-night country breakfast buffet. Great eats and drinks will be available for sale all evening at Smokehouse’s bar and regionally renowned barbecue marketplace.
