Child Dies in Stormwater Pond
A toddler drowned in a south Loudoun stormwater retention pond Thursday afternoon.
The 3-year-old walked away undetected from the family’s home in the East Gate neighborhood near South Riding. Searching the area, family members found the child in a pond near Potomac Twain Terrace after 2 p.m.
Efforts to perform CPR were unsuccessful. The child was transported to a hospital and was pronounced dead.
This is a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to the parents.
These stormwater ponds are a public health hazard. Every year we read about a kid that drowns in one.
