Area residents can tour the latest addition to Leesburg’s burgeoning tech corridor on Friday afternoon when EIT holds a community open house at its new headquarters.
Located at 309 Kelly’s Ford Plaza off Battlefield Parkway in the southeast quadrant of town, the 72,000-square-foot building houses high-tech manufacturing equipment and a team engineers, assembly workers and other staff.
EIT LLC—Electronic Instrumentation and Technology—was founded by Leesburg resident and former state delegate Joe T. May in 1977 with the goal of combining strong manufacturing and engineering teams in a single operation—a new concept at the time. Today, the company provides electronic manufacturing and engineering services for customers in the medical, communications, industrial process control, analytical instrument and defense markets. Most of the company’s work is contract manufacturing, under which electronic assemblies are produced in accord with customers’ specifications. EIT also designs and manufactures a line of proprietary products used in the measurement of ultra violet light.
Prior to opening the Leesburg facility, EIT operated in two buildings in Sterling. It also has operations in Danville and in Salem, NH, with an overall staff of nearly 250.
The EIT headquarters is located across the street from another high-tech manufacturing facility, the K2M Group Holdings headquarters that opened last summer. K2M designs and manufactures complex and minimally invasive spine technologies and techniques used by surgeons around the globe.
The EIT open house is planned from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Friday, March 24. Guided tours will be offered and company HR representatives will be available to discuss employment opportunities.
