White’s Ferry Secure After Breaking Free of Cable

A dozen cars and several passengers aboard White’s Ferry were left floating down the Potomac River this afternoon after the ferry’s cable snapped, according to officials in Montgomery County, MD.

The ferry was later towed and safely secured to a boat ramp on the Maryland side, Montgomery County Fire-Rescue reported about 3:45 p.m.

There were no injuries or damage to vehicles, and no further damage to the ferry.

White’s Ferry transports people, bikes and cars across the river from Dickerson, MD, just north of Leesburg on the Virginia side.
